Storm waves. Mendocino coast

Cliff Way. Just south of Noyo Bay. One of a handful of photos taken through the Mini's windshield. Too wet and windy out to play with my camera outside.

Storm arriving ...

Posted by Picasa

What does this photo show? Planes coming in for landing from the north, which means the wind's from the south, which means the expected storm is starting to blow in.

Thunderhead over the east hills

After the storm
Cold. Wet. Yes, please. Could we have some precipitation?

A friend up the hill reported snow falling. His nibs said hail was causing havoc -- and slips -- on the Steps as he came home from his stint at the Academy of Sciences.

I was (relatively) snug and warm inside today. Thick sweater. Warm wrap. Fuzzy slippers. (Thermostat set at 65dF as is our wont. ...)

And then the storm cleared and I took pictures ...

Here's one:

Rain coming in soon. ...
The wind is kicking in from the south. White caps on the Bay. Planes landing from the north at SFO.

Rain soon! (x'd fingers)

Update: Rain was fast and furious for a bit, but now the wind and the rain are barely there. x'd fingers for more wet.

After The Deluge

Added: [desciption] TCHO as the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.
(I also PhotoShop'd the picture to enhance the edges. So sue me.) Check the links below.

Deluge this afternoon. Havoc reigned.

Fog bank. Fog bank. Storm clouds. Sun.
Some people collect cats. I collect clouds.

A series of pictures (untweaked in the slightest) of the fog banks out the window 2 1/2 hrs ago. The clouds have since changed shape and dissipated some. The sun has been shining here throughout.

TWO banks of fog with a topper of storm clouds in the east, toward Berkeley.

Weird.

Schwarzenegger Declares California Drought Emergency
Schwarzenegger Declares California Drought Emergency

Some more rain is arriving tonight, if the weather mavens are to be believed, and carry over for a few days, but things aren't looking good.

Step one: encourage farmers who suck up water to raise crops like cotton and rice to move their operations to places that are better suited for water-guzzling crops.

Step two: encourage folks who plant golf courses in deserts to transform them into something else and/or let the land lapse back into sand dunes.

Step three: see where steps one and two take you.

And then, a while later, a couple tugs pull a decommissioned vessel south ... to dry dock? to repair? to ???

Foggy day in town (and then not ...)
The fog had been creeping in since we woke up. The radio said the San Mateo Bridge, south of us, was fogged in, but we didn't have fog. Then. ... The fog from the south showed up at our doorstep.
7:54 a.m.

9:08 a.m.: The fog is hugging the underside of the Bay Bridge. The cars heading west come out of a cloud and into the sun, then head back into a cloud.

9:09 a.m. : Some birds hanging out in the notorious cypress tree down hill from us. Watching the fog that's crept over the bay.

The cranes over at the Port of Oakland on the east side of the Bay are just barely visible above the fog.

10:06 a.m. An hour later, the fog begins to clear and a sunny, San Francisco fall day appears. Not unexpectedly.

The crows rule the cypress roost. Later they'll make way for the parrots. There are a variety of bird types that share turns watching from the lofty perch. The only bird that's unwelcome by all is the hawk.

Clear as a bell here since before sunrise. The fog, though, she's blowing in.

Update>And just as quickly gone. Clear, sunny day. And I have fish to fry. Back later.

Bertold Brecht:
Everything changes. You can make
A fresh start with your final breath.
But what has happened has happened. And the water
You once poured into the wine cannot be
Drained off again.
